Severe Storms Expected - Prepare for Flooding & Strong Winds

The Mendham Township Office of Emergency Management, Police Department, Department of Public Works, and our first responder organizations are monitoring the storm that is set to arrive this afternoon and last until early tomorrow morning. We are expecting wind-driven, heavy rain this evening into midnight with embedded downpours. This event will likely cause widespread and significant flooding due to the projected 2-4 inches of rain and the quickly melting snowpack. 40-50 mph gusts also have the potential to take down tree limbs and power lines.

If possible, stay off of the roads.

If you notice a downed power line or a tree blocking the road, do not go near it, and report it immediately by calling the police non-emergency number at: (973) 543-2581 press 0 to speak to an operator or email: OEMALERT@mendhamtownship.org

Please reserve calling 911 for emergency situations.

If you lose power, report your outage to JCP&L directly by calling 1-888-LIGHTSS (1-888-544-4877), or visiting www.firstenergycorp.com and clicking the “Report Outage” link on www.firstenergycorp.com, or by texting out to 544487.

Reminder: Generators can be a lifesaver during power outages, but can also be dangerous if used or installed improperly. Never use a portable generator inside the house or a closed garage. Additionally, do not use gas stoves, kerosene heaters or other open flame heat sources to keep warm. These sources of heat can cause deadly carbon monoxide gas to build up in your home.

If you need assistance or us to check on a community member, please contact the Mendham Township Office of Emergency Management at: OEMALERT@mendhamtownship.org or (973) 370-5720.

Stay Safe,
