Township Facilities

Mendham Township boasts more than 60-miles of hiking trails on open space properties, plus Morris County’s Patriots Path and Schiff Nature Preserve, managed privately as a nonprofit lands trust. Visit HikeMendham.org or the AllTrails Website for a list of Mendham hiking trails with routes and descriptions.

There are many township-owned parks, playgrounds and sports fields for spending leisure time:

Brookside Beach — This charming swimming spot is a perfect place for families to cool off on hot summer days. Located next to the Elementary School on West Main Street, seasonal memberships are available or visitors can pay a daily fee. The Beach also hosts Doggy Dips in the Fall and ice skating in winter months.

Historic Park at Pitney Farm — Located on Cold Hill Road, this newest park in the township was developed on the Pitney family’s former farm and homestead. It offers a walking path with signs telling the community’s history, a beautiful walled garden and gazebo.

India Brook Park — Located off of Ironia Road, India Brook was used as a kennel for The Seeing Eye until being purchased by the township in 2000. The kennels are now the site of the Randolph Regional Animal Shelter. This park also is a stepping off point for a hike down to Buttermilk Falls, a local favorite for recreation, and includes a large, multi-purpose field.

Meadowood Park — Near the Chester border on Old Mill Road, Meadowood Park is a hidden gem with a fascinating past as a former camp. This park is home to a picnic pavilion with a fireplace that is available for parties and rentals and a leisurely hiking loop.

Mosle Preserve — This tucked-away, 120-acre park at the top of Hunters Glen Road was purchased in 2008. Today, the preserve includes a football and baseball field, with hiking trails in the surrounding woods.

Ralston Field — This multi-sport field at 326 Mendham Road West is home to soccer pitches and baseball fields, and a small picnic area for spectators.

Schiff Nature Preserve — On the west side of town, the main portion of Schiff, a 502-acre preserve off Pleasant Valley Road, was saved from development by a group of activist residents. A former Boy Scout training camp, Schiff hosts nature programs, private children’s parties, events and miles of trails for exploring. Visit Schiffnaturepreserve.org.

Wysong Park — A baseball field and the new Ralston Playground are the main features of this park at 320 Mendham Road West, just east of the Ralston Field. The community banded together in 2017 to raise money to rebuild the playground at this favorite gathering area for children. It reopened with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and celebration in 2019.
