Mendham Township Partner in Great Swamp Watershed Association Native Plant Sale Starting April 3

Last year Mendham Township launched a partnership with the National Wildlife Federation’s Community Wildlife Habitat program to become healthier, greener, and more wildlife-friendly by committing to create wildlife habitat throughout its communities while also educating and engaging residents. The project is called The Nature of Mendham to highlight the abundant natural resources within Mendham and its aim is that everyone will consider making small changes, such as gardening with native plants and not using pesticides on their property to benefit wildlife. Mendham Borough has now joined The Nature of Mendham so now we can work together across both our towns.

To become certified as a National Wildlife Federation Community Wildlife Habitat Mendham Township & Mendham Borough are calling on its residents to certify their own property at NWF.org/Certify. The Mendhams will need to have 175 homeowners certify their property to become a Community Wildlife Habitat.

To aid these efforts, the Mendham Township Environmental Commission will once again be participating in the Great Swamp Watershed Association’s 3^rd annual native plant sale. If you purchase native plant plugs at www.greatswamp.org/native-plant-sale starting April 3, you will be able to pick them up at the Mendham Township Municipal parking lot on May 6 from 2-4pm. With 16 local towns participating, the goal is to foster broad adoption of native plant gardens across our area to create necessary habitat for the pollinator insects and bird communities that are foundation elements of our local ecosystem by pooling our private yards.
