Earthquake Today

At approximately 10:20am, an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 4.7 struck our region. With the epicenter near Readington Township in Hunterdon County, it was one of the most powerful earthquakes to strike our area in modern times. As soon as the earthquake hit, the schools were evacuated and swept for any damage. At this point, school instruction has resumed.

The State of New Jersey and Morris County have activated their Emergency Operation Centers. Mendham Township’s Local Emergency Planning Committee is assessing the impact to our town and actively monitoring the situation. Please be advised that we may experience aftershocks in the days to come.
