Stomp Out Stigma Event

Stomp Out the Stigma Walk!

The Mendhams Stigma-Free Task Force is celebrating May as Mental Health Awareness Month by hosting its third annual "Stomp Out the Stigma Walk" on Sunday, May 5! All families, individuals and students are invited to join the Task Force in removing barriers to discussing mental health and creating a more compassionate and open-minded community.

This year's Walk is raising funds for college scholarships to graduating Mendham High School students who are planning a career in the field of mental health/substance use disorders. Additional Walk proceeds will be used to: develop support programming for all members of our community; provide grants to Borough and Township middle and elementary schools and the Mendham Area Senior Citizens Group for initiatives designed to support our community's mental health.

Thanks to the tremendous support of our 2023 Walk sponsors, the Task Force funded, developed and participated in several important initiatives:

  • Provided financial scholarships to two qualifying West-Morris Mendham High School Seniors whose planned college major is in the field of mental health and/or substance use disorders.
  • Partnered with Mendham Township Middle School to develop S.L.A.Y. Day (Self Love All Year), a unique program providing students, teachers and staff with a day of self-care and connection.  Students matriculated through various stations, each carefully curated to inspire fun, friendship, movement, self-love, and thought-provoking representations of happiness and empathy.
  • Partnered with Mendham Township School District and Mendham Township Police Department to develop 'A Parent's Guide to Internet Safety.'  This workshop addressed online privacy and security, role of social media in children's lives and parental controls to ensure safety.
  • Developed 'Beat the Winter Blues' Party for all Mendham residents.  Held at the Brookside Community Club, this creative and family-friendly event drew close to 200 attendees.  Guests enjoyed, crafts, trivia, music, hot cocoa and homemade chili stations, and most importantly, community connection.
