Mosle Field
About the Park
Accessed at Carriage Hill and Hunters Glen Road, the Recreation Area at the Mosle Preserve houses a football field (home of the Twin Boro Bears); baseball field (home of the Mendham/Chester Patriots); and a multi-purpose field. This area has hosted Mendham Township's recreational sports programs for decades.
Current Proposal for Mosle Recreation Area Lighting Improvement Project
Project Goal: To improve safety conditions and maintain current usage with replacement of existing portable diesel-fueled lights with 90-degree downstream lights on the existing football field; as well as an installation of new nights in the parking lot at the Mosle Recreation Area. There will not be any changes to the layouts or configuration of the fields. We are also working with our engineer to see if we can utilize green energy sources, such as solar.
Proposal Scope:
- Replacement of 10 diesel powered lights on the football field to be 6 permanent 60 foot tall 90-degree downstream lights
- To accommodate baseball, as well as other town-wide events portable mound upgrades
- Addition of 6 permanent 30 foot tall 90-degree downstream lights in the parking lot
- Electrical Service

As a part the 2022 Capital Budget process, the Mendham Township Committee approved an engineering study to review the feasibility of site upgrades and provide cost estimates. The presentation made to the Mendham Township Finance Committee on March 1, 2022 can be viewed here.
As a part of the Capital Budget approval process, Ordinance 09-2022 passed to appropriate $35,000 toward recreation improvements consisting of the major repair or replacement of fencing and other improvements at Brookside Beach, acquisition and installation of park furnishings, improvement of pickleball/tennis courts at Mt. Pleasant Park and a lighting study for Mosle Field to accommodate the proposed turf field.
On October 24, 2022, a presentation (all presentations can be viewed in documents below) requesting the allocation of funds based on a Recreation Committee proposal was made to the Township Committee.
On November 14, 2022, the Mendham Township Committee passed Ordinance 14-2022 appropriating $20,000 from the Capital Improvement Fund in Order to Provide for a Study of Improvements to Mosle Fields and by the Township of Mendham, in the County of Morris, New Jersey.
In January 2023, the Recreation Committee met to review the estimates provided by the engineer and to develop a proposal.
At the January 23, Township Committee Meeting, a presentation was made with a preliminary proposal for a "Mosle Recreation Area Lighting Improvement Project"
The Recreation Committee held their monthly advisory committee meeting on Thursday, February 9, and invited Mosle Field neighbors to offer feedback on the proposed improvement project
On Monday, February 20, 2023, the Mendham Township Recreation Committee hosted a second Community Meeting at the Brookside Community Club at 3pm to provide updates from neighborhood concerns and continue to solicit Township feedback.
An additional community meeting was hel on March 7. Then, at the March 13, 2023 Township Committee Meeting, the Recreation Department presented the 2023 Budget Proposal including this project.
On April 3, 2023, a special meeting was held with the Township Committee to present the revised plans.
