          The Mendham Township Police Department consists of 14 police officers with two secretaries and one part time administrative assistant. The department consists of a Patrol division and a Detective bureau. The police department is dispatched 24 hours a day by the Washington Township communications center. The police department is staffed from 8am to 4pm on weekdays, except for holidays. There is a direct phone which is connected to the communications center located outside of the police department. This phone is to be used after hours to contact the dispatcher to request information or to have a patrol officer immediately return to the department to render assistance.

SERVICES AVAILABLE

The Mendham Township Police Department offers additional services to the community aside from the primary patrol functions of the department. These services consist of the following:

          Vacant Home Checks- Provides for the inspection of residences while the homeowners are away for an extended period of time. If you would like us to put you on the list for the Vacant Home Checks, you must contact us the day before your scheduled departure at 973-543-2581.

          Hunting Permits- Hunting in Mendham Township is allowed by permit only. Contact the police department for a Hunting Permit Application. See our map of the permitted Hunting Zones within the township.

          Firearms I.D and Pistol Purchase Permits- May be obtained by
contacting the Detective Bureau, between the hours of
8am- 6pm on weekdays.

          Records- To get a copy of a police report. Contact police headquarters at 973-543-2581 during the hours on 8am-4pm weekdays.

          Fee Schedule for copies are: first page to tenth page (1-10) $0.75 per page; eleventh page to twentieth page (11-20) $0.50; all pages over twenty $0.25 per page.

          Discovery request packets are $25.00.

          Fingerprinting- The police department provides fingerprinting for residents of the township for a variety of reasons such as employment requirements. There is no cost for township residents. Those needing to be fingerprinted must contact the Detective Bureau at 973-543-2584.

          Resident Crime Prevention Survey – The Mendham Township police department is exploring every possible means of deterring crime and improving our service to the community. To complete our survey on line or print it out and mail it to us at Post Office Box 236 , Brookside NJ 07926 .

          Shut In Program- This program is designed to check on the welfare of our residents that are confined to their house due to illness or other circumstance beyond their control. An officer of the department will contact you by phone periodically to ensure that you do not need additional assistance. If you would like information about the Shut In Program you may contact us by e-mail or by calling 973-543-2581.

          Presentations/Tours- Officers are available to conduct tours of police headquarters and make presentations to groups or organizations relating to child safety, senior citizen scams or any other police related topic. You may contact us by e-mail or by calling 973-543-2581.

          D.A.R.E- The national drug resistance education program is taught in every school in Mendham Township by our Dare officers.

          Child Safety Seats- The Mendham Township police department has two certified child passenger safety restraint technicians. These two officers are available to assist residents in the proper placement of child safety seats in your vehicle. We offer free child passenger safety restraint checks.           Domestic Violence Crisis Response Team- The department has a team of trained volunteers from within the community to assist the victims of domestic violence.  For additional information please click here.

          Traffic Improvement Suggestions- To offer suggestions on how to improve traffic in Mendham Township . Please complete our Traffic Improvement Suggestion Form and submit in on line or print it out and mail it to us at Post Office Box 236 , Brookside NJ 07926 .
