MENDHAM TOWNSHIP RECOGNIZES OPEN SPACE PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST WINNERS

The Mendham Township Committee at their March 22nd meeting announced the winners of the 2005 Township’s Open Space Photography Contest.   The contest, initiated in 2004 by the Township Open Space Committee, is a photography competition designed to enlist the creativity of residents and capture photos of the Township’s hundreds of acres of natural open space land.  At Tuesday’s meeting, Township Mayor, Richard Krieg presented awards to four local residents including first, second and third place awards in the at-large category and a first place award in the junior division.

The judging for this year’s contest was performed by three independent photographers residing in the area: freelance and press photographer Gail Tramontano, Tom Kelly of Kelly/Mooney Professional Photographers, and Joe Galioto, owner of The Image Maker portrait studios.

Winners were:

At Large Category:

Ř      1st Place : Ms. Nina Dunn for “Mendham Deer”

Ř      2nd Place : Mr. David Unger for Rock Fall, Leaves and Pool in the Stream at Dismal Harmony

Ř      3rd Place :  Ms. Nina Dunn for “Mendham Leaves”

Junior Category:

Ř      First Place : Mr. John Stanton (Age 9) for “ Buttermilk Falls

In presenting the awards, Mayor Krieg recognized all the participants, stating, “The Township is truly blessed to have so many talented and creative individuals willing to participate in this wonderful celebration of our Township open space.”  I commend all of the participants in this year’s contest and the Township Open Space Committee for taking the initiative to create the contest and our judges for volunteer their time to evaluate the submittals”  The Mayor also thanked local merchants for their assistance in providing prizes for the contest, most notably, Chester Camera and the Mendham Village Bookstore.

The Township will use the photographs in newsletters and other applications, and they will be displayed at the Township’s web site, www.mendhamtownship.org
