The following is a listing of some of the more frequently asked questions and our answers.


Q: How can I dispose of Household Hazardous Waste such as oil based paint or pesticides ?

A: By calling Morris County Municipal Utilities Authority at 973-829-8006 to make an appointment or for more information.

 

Q: When is recycling pickup ?

A: Recycling pickup occurs every other Monday in the Township. For a copy of the schedule call the Town Hall at 973-543-4555.

Q: Do I need a permit to install a fence around my property ?

A: If the fence is 6 feet or over a permit is required, and if you are on a corner lot a permit is also required.. Please call our Building Department at 973-543-4555 for other specific information you may need.

 

Q: What is on the next Planning Board Agenda ?

A: The Planning Board Agenda gets posted twice a month on the Town Hall Bulletin Board. You can stop in or call us for that information, or refer to our news information web page.

   

Q: Does the Township offer a brush pickup?

A: Yes , the Public Works Department picks up brush and small branches curbside in May and October. For specific dates you can call them at 973-543-4509.

  

Q: What special events or Recreation programs are being offered by the Township ?

A: We have ongoing events and programs offered during the year. Information and applications are available at the Town Hall and our Recreation Booklet is updated in the Spring. Call our Recreation Dept. at 973-543-4555 or refer to our Recreation Web page.

 

Q: Do I have to license my dog or cat ?

A: Yes, each dog or cat you own has to be licensed. A dog has to be six months of age and you need to show proof of rabies shots. Contact Penny Newell at Town Hall for further assistance 973-543-4555.

 

Q: How do I apply for a Marriage License?

A: A marriage license is obtained in the municipality where the bride resides.   If she is a non-resident of New Jersey the license must be obtained from the municipality in which the groom resides. To obtain the license a witness must be present who knows both parties. The license fee is $28.00. Be sure to contact our Registrar of Vital Statistics, Penny Newell at 973-543-4555.

 

Q: What Cable Company services Mendham Township ?

A: The Company serving Mendham Township is called Patriot Media.   To establish a new connection or for technical support for existing connections contact Patriot Media Customer Service at 1-866-PAT-1776.  Additional information on Patriot Media can be found through their website at www.patmedia.net


Q: I’m thinking of selling my home, is there anything that the Township requires?

    1) (By State Law ) a Certificate of Smoke Detector Compliance.

     Contact Robert Westenberger at 543-4555. Filing fee: $50.00


    2) Certificate of Continued Use for septic systems. System must be tested by a licensed professional engineer or a Registered Environmental Health Specialist, first grade.  Filing fee: $40.00

    3) Certificate of Potability (private wells only). Water must be sampled by, and tested by a State certified laboratory. Filing fee: $40.00  Please call our Health Department and ask for Linda Brusco for additional information,  543-4555.

 

Q: I am a new resident in town, who do I use for garbage pickup ?

A: The Township employs Blue Diamond Disposal. Residents pay only for the amount of garbage they produce. The Township pays a service fee through your taxes that covers the overhead of the garbage route. You pay a sticker fee to cover the cost of disposal at the Morris County Transfer Station. For additional information or further clarification, please call Town Hall at 973-543-4555 , or contact the haulers directly at 973-598-9800.  Residents not wishing to use the Township garbage collection program may opt to hire their own contractor directly.  For information on private waste haulers consult the local yellow pages of your phone book.

 

Q: Can you tell me when the Monthly Committee meetings are held and where ?

A: Meetings are held at the Town Hall. Schedule is as follows: 
Township Committee meets on the 2nd Monday & 4th Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
Board of Health meets on the 4th Monday at 7:30
Board of Adjustment meets on the 2nd Thursday at 8:00
Planning Board meets on the 1st Monday & 3rd Wednesday at 7:30
Recreation Committee meets on the 1st Wednesday at 7:30


Q: What do I do about a stray dog or cat in my neighborhood?

A: Animal control services are provided to the township by St. Hubert’s Giralda Animal Hospital.  To contact St. Hubert's by phone, dial 973-377-2295.

 

 

Q:  Does Mendham Township Have any Rules and Regulations Regarding Noise?

 

A:  Yes, The Township does have a noise ordinance.  The purpose of this ordinance is to regulate the hours of construction and the use of power equipment out-of-doors in order to protect and promote the health, welfare and safety of the public and the peace and tranquility of the Township.

 

Q:  What Type of Activities are Restricted?

 

A:  The construction, ,maintenance, repair, alteration or demolition of any building or structure or the laying of any pavement, including, but not limited to, making an excavation, movement of earth, clearing of land, and loading or unloading of construction material, equipment or supplies, shall be unlawful.

 

Operating any power equipment, including, but not limited to, a power saw, hammer, sander, drill, grinder, lawn mower, leaf blower, woodchipper, thatcher, generator, air compressor or like power equipment.

 

Q:  What are the Permitted Hours of Restricted Activities?

 

A:  The activities restricted shall be permitted only during the following hours:

 

Weekdays:       7:00 am to 8:00 pm

 

Saturdays:        8:00 am to 6:00 pm

 

Sundays and legal holidays:  9:00 am . to 6:00 pm

 

Such activities on Sundays and legal holidays may be conducted only by the owners or occupants of the premises or their family members and not by contractors or employees.
