Dear Brookside Beach Members,
Effective 3:40 PM on Monday, July 27, 2020 Brookside Beach will be closed for swimming until at least Thursday, July 30, 2020.
On Friday, July 24, 2020 we received notice of an exceedance of Bacterial Level at Brookside Beach. The E. coli bacteria level exceeded the acceptable level and was at 1203.3. Over the weekend, the water was retested and we received notice at 3:33 PM on Monday, July 27that levels are still exceeding the acceptable level at 770.1. The acceptable level is 320.
E. Coli levels can be elevated due to fecal contamination and run off water. Our levels can likely be contributed due to last week’s storms and the recent influx of Canadian geese at the facility. Heat can also lead to more favorable conditions for bacteria to thrive. We have contacted a professional goose chasing company who will be able to solve the issue of the geese at Brookside Beach.
Garden State Labs tests our waters weekly to ensure the water is safe for swimming. This is the perfect example of why our aggressive water testing system is in place to keep the public protected in the event that any potentially harmful water is present. Garden State Labs will return for a follow up test tomorrow and we expect the results on Wednesday evening. We will reopen as soon as water levels return to the acceptable level. Public health and safety is our number one priority.
Please let me know if you have any questions via email email@example.com. I will be monitoring my email this evening and will return any emails with follow up calls if you leave me your phone number.
Be safe and be well.
