Township Introduces 2007 Budget; No Increase in Municipal Tax Rate The Mendham
Township Committee introduced the 2007 municipal budget at its meeting on March
12. The proposed budget calls for no increase in the municipal tax rate. Mayor
Phyllis Florek introduced the budget, stating, “The Township Committee is
pleased to put forth a budget that addresses the needs of the community without
an increase in the municipal tax rate. This
year proved a challenging year to maintain a level tax rate, but thanks to the
hard work of the Township Committee, staff and volunteer groups we were able to
hold the line.”
The 2007 budget contains funding for a number of new and on-going
initiatives aimed at enhancing services to residents.
These initiatives include the overlay of
five Township roads, a new all purpose field at India Brook Park, the
construction of the Brookside Emergency Services Building, continued funding of
the Township Fire Cistern program, drainage improvements in the Knollwood Trail
neighborhood and the resurfacing of the tennis courts at Mount Pleasant Road. “The
Township has a number of important infrastructure needs and service commitments
that need to be met in the coming year”, said Mayor Florek.
“Projects, contracts and operating expenses were all scrutinized and
prioritized. On the revenue side,
grants and external funding sources were also actively pursued.
The net result is a sound budget, and a reasonable surplus, so Mendham
Township can continue providing the high quality of municipal services our
residents have come to expect.” The 2007
budget totals $8,920,269. The municipal tax rate will continue at the current
rate of $0.262 per $100 assessed value. Under state
law all municipal budgets must be approved by the New Jersey Department of
Community Affairs. Subject to this
approval, the Committee has scheduled the date of April 9th for official public
hearing on the 2007 budget. |
